CORGI

senior capstone project.

CORGI is a cloud cost and utilization monitoring application built for Kiewit, designed to give product teams direct visibility into underutilized or orphaned resources. The goal was to reduce waste, optimize cloud spending, and empower teams to act independently without relying solely on DevOps. I collaborated with a multidisciplinary team to design, develop, and deploy the system, ensuring it combined usability, functionality, and predictive insights.

Over the course of the project, we followed an iterative development process:

  • Participated in weekly sponsor meetings and met with stakeholders at their offices to gather requirements and feedback.

  • Designed wireframes and interactive prototypes to define the user experience and guide development.

  • Contributed to backend and frontend development, including writing and running unit tests to ensure code quality.

  • Implemented machine learning models to predict future costs for cloud resources, enabling proactive optimization.

  • Presented progress and feature demos to stakeholders, incorporating feedback into subsequent iterations.

The CORGI project delivered a fully functional platform that:

  • Provides real-time insights into cloud resource utilization and cost inefficiencies.

  • Allows teams to take direct actions on recommendations (decommission, right-size, whitelist).

  • Includes dashboards and anomaly heatmaps for visualizing resource waste and cost trends.

  • Integrates predictive machine learning to forecast future resource costs.

  • Strengthened stakeholder engagement through clear presentations and iterative feedback, creating a product that is both practical and impactful.
