Similar to Nike’s “Nike By You”, I wanted to give users a three-dimensional rendering of their skateboard as they went through the design process. I've always admired Nike's design tool as it's extremely interactive and pushes the boundaries for what can be done on an ecommerce website.
The three-dimensional rendering not only gives users a better understanding of what their board would look like, but it also provides them with a more entertaining process, almost as if they are playing a video game. The name, Steezy, comes from a term in skateboarding that means to do something difficult with style and to make it look effortless. Lastly, the color scheme, design, and language of the website comes from the boldness of skateboarding, mixed with ideas from video games design tools.
challenge.
As a skateboarder, I've always found it difficult to shop for skateboards online. The most difficult part, I noticed, was that it was hard to get a good idea of what the skateboard would look like in person based on what it looked like on the website. Additionally, I believe that skateboard ecommerce website could do better when it comes to providing users with more customization options, even allowing them to create custom designs for their decks. Overall, I wanted to construct a more creative and interactive experience for the end-user.
results.
The finished model and photographs produced for STONE MIND exceeded expectations. The product photos delivered a powerful visual impact, highlighting the unique texture and structure of the stones under varied lighting. The model became a striking artistic centerpiece, serving both as an art piece and an effective marketing asset. The images were later used in campaigns and as inspirational visuals within design and art communities.
